In a digital world increasingly dominated by a handful of Latin-based typefaces, Granshan stands as a vital counterforce. Founded in 2008, Granshan is a unique, non-profit organization dedicated to the celebration, study, and development of non-Latin typography. Its name, an artificial word crafted to evoke "grand" and "script," reflects its core mission: to give grand visibility to the world’s many scripts. The Mission: Beyond the Latin Bias For decades, the typographic industry has suffered from a significant imbalance. While Latin script (the alphabet used for English, French, German, etc.) boasts thousands of typefaces and a rich history of design exploration, scripts like Arabic, Devanagari, Thai, Hebrew, Cyrillic, Greek, Tamil, and countless others have often been underserved.
