Maya didn’t panic. She couldn’t . Her mind had already left the spreadsheet.

“We’re not submitting a report that blames someone else,” she said. “We’re fixing it.” Maya didn’t panic

For the next six hours, they worked in a bubble. Maya didn’t know everything—far from it. But kicked in like a thirst. She grabbed a whiteboard and started drawing the data flow. “Show me how drivers record mileage,” she asked the warehouse team. “Show me the worst case.” She took notes like a student, asked dumb questions, and within two hours, she understood their chaotic paper system better than the manager who’d built it. Leo groaned

Maya smiled. She pointed to a sticky note on her monitor. On it, she’d written five words:

At 11 PM, Leo found the error: a repeated decimal shift in the fuel reports. “It’s not our fault,” he said. “The vendor’s system is wrong.”
