Summer in Japan (June to August) is characterized by intense heat, high humidity, and distinct seasonal events. It begins with the rainy season ( tsuyu ), followed by a dramatic shift to sweltering heat. While physically demanding, this period also features world-famous festivals (matsuri), spectacular fireworks (hanabi), and unique culinary traditions.
Summer in Japan is an extreme season – both meteorologically and culturally. Visitors who prepare for the heat and humidity will be rewarded with vibrant festivals, stunning fireworks, and unique seasonal foods. However, those with low heat tolerance should consider June (if rain is acceptable) or focus on northern Japan and mountain areas. For most, the best compromise is – sacrificing some comfort for the peak of festival and fireworks culture, while strictly managing heat exposure. summer months in japan
