Three dots appeared. Then:

Then my father died.

“I’m proud of you. Always was. Even when we stopped talking.” A pause

A simple text box appeared. No logo. No settings menu. Just a blinking cursor and, above it, a single line:

I stared at the screen until the cursor blinked again. I typed back everything I never said at the hospital — the apologies, the love, the stupid fight about the car. A pause. Then the message appeared

My hands shook. I typed: “Who is this?”
