The narrator, a young schoolboy, lives with his grandparents in a village. One full moon night (a Vennela night), he cannot sleep. He steps out into the backyard, bathed in ethereal moonlight. The silver light transforms the familiar haystacks, wells, and fences into a magical kingdom.
