Granny put her arm around Maya. “That’s right, little star. The season comes every year. But so does the calm after. And as long as we prepare, we can weather any storm.”

“A mood?” Maya tilted her head.

“Yes,” Granny said, pointing to the calm, sparkling water. “For most of the year, the ocean is like a sleepy giant. It whispers, it plays, it carries boats gently. But from June the first until the end of November, the giant wakes up a little more. The sun has been warming its back all spring and summer, making the water feel hot and restless.” what is the hurricane season
