It wasn’t a real thing. Not in the physical sense. You couldn’t buy it at a hardware store or tie it to a cleat. But we all grew up dragging it behind us. A thick, invisible cord of inherited tension, secondhand anxiety, and the sharp, whispered warnings of those who came before us.
